We offer elective 2D & 3D/4D prenatal ultrasounds for expecting mothers. We provide an intimate setting for a mother to experience her baby. If a mother desires she may invite her loved ones to join the session and experience the baby too. We feel that realistic surface images provide a connection between the parents and baby that can be beneficial to the whole family. A routine ultrasound examination should have already been performed to assess the gestational age of the fetus and to evaluate for fetal anomalies as well as the basic components of fetal anatomy recommended for screening. We are an elective service. Our services do not replace medical services and advice from your gynecologist, midwife, and/or primary care doctor.

Our services DO NOT take place of the ultrasounds given by your primary doctor. Women seeking an elective prenatal ultrasound with Westbank 3D Ultrasound must already be receiving treatment with a healthcare provider for prenatal care and may only rely on a medical, diagnostic ultrasound ordered by their provider to confirm their due date, screen for fetal anomalies, and to look for any other pregnancy related issues. Please note, at no time is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound. Our purpose is to allow the mother and loved ones to experience the baby and to give our clients memorabilia to cherish for years to come.

Many women have a diagnostic ultrasound performed as early as 8 week to 20 weeks. In some cases, your doctor or sonographer may even take some pictures and video of your baby in 3D/4D, but this is a very different experience than an elective ultrasound at our facility. A medical ultrasound is focused on looking for abnormalities and performing diagnostic measurements. While fascinating, we feel this focus detracts from the relaxed environment and interactive bonding experience. We provide a relaxing session in where we allow a mother to spend a healthy amount of time to connecting with her child. In addition, we take our time to capture plenty of great pictures. Also, the best pictures of your baby will be captured later in your pregnancy when the baby is bigger and more developed.

Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound technology has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now a typical occurrence throughout the United States. 3D/4D Ultrasound both utilize sound waves to look inside the body. 3D/4D scanning uses the same type and intensity as with conventional 2D scanning. The technology is similar to radar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. For example, women who are categorized as “high risk” have ultrasounds weekly. It’s safe when operated by a trained ultrasound technologist.

Typically, medical ultrasounds are done around 8-12 weeks, 18-22 weeks, and sometimes in the third trimester. For elective ultrasounds, we recommend gender determination at 15-24 weeks and 3D/4D ultrasounds between 27-34 weeks for the best imaging results.

The number of ultrasounds depends on your healthcare provider’s recommendations and your pregnancy's needs. For non-medical, elective sessions, you can book with us at any stage, as often as you'd like to capture special moments.
